Lakewood Country Club
Opened in 1912, Lakewood Country Club is the local country club for Lakewood and surrounding residents.
Lakewood Country Club's clubhouse overlooked rolling woodlands in the new East Dallas neighborhood. A few of the Lakewood houses still overlook sections of the country club's course.
Lakewood Country Club envisioned created Dallas' second 18-hole golf course and hired a well-known architect from Scotland, Tom Bendelow. Mr. Bendelow had a long career of designing more than 400 golf courses.
The special course hosted the Texas Amateur in 1942 and the Dallas Victory open in 1944. Legendary golfer, Byron Nelson, was the champion of the 1944 Victory Open. The Victory Open was later renamed to the Dallas Open and eventually the Byron Nelson Classic
