Richardson ISD School District is a public school district in Dallas-Fort Wroth serving over 38,000 students with a teaching staff of over 2,400 classroom instructors.  Richardson ISD geography takes up 38.5 square miles of school district.

The district operates 55 campuses and maintains over 70 facilities for students, administration & support.  The facilities include over 6,000,000 square feet with 35,000,000 square feet of grounds.  The district was recently rated as "Recognized" by the Texas Education Agency.

All four of Richardson ISD's high schools (Lake Highlands, Berkner, Pearce and Richardson High) have received National Blue Ribbon School awards.  The latest Blue Ribbon School was Lake Highlands in 2002.

Since 2010, Richardson ISD has been led by Superintendent Dr. Kay Waggoner.  Waggoner came to Richardson from Grapevine-Colleyville ISD where she held the same position of Superintendent from 2004 to 2010.  Waggoner was also Superintendent of Red Oak ISD from 1997 to 2004.

The district was originally founded in 1854 for children of local farmers, small business owners, and settlers around the railroad outside of Dallas.

Richardson ISD recently teamed up with Capital One for a local, nine-day math camp to learn real life skills and team-building activities. Capital One has been offering the program now for five years to local school districts.  This year's camp included 100 fifth grade students from both Richardson ISD and Dallas ISD.

Richardson ISD also launched a new summer program called Ignite aimed at assisting struggling students to engage more in their education and changing their mindsets toward education as a whole.

Richardson ISD also has taken a recent look at the Lake Highlands Freshman Center and its role in the upcoming years.  The Freshman center is a freshman only building located on the campus of Lake Highlands High School.  However, a great deal of apprehension was expressed by parents and local community members during a meeting in October of 2014 with Richardson ISD Superintendent Dr. Kay Waggoner.  As such, the district leaned toward a compromise of keeping the freshmen in their own building but increasing the mixing of the freshman center with the traditional high school.

Lunch - At lunchtime, students must choose at least three out of the five different components (grain, milk, vegetables, protein, and fruit), in order to be able to pay the school's lunch price or to receive meal benefits.

Students with Dyslexia

According to the District's website, a Texas Education Code defines dyslexia as a disorder of constitutional origin manifested by a difficulty in learning to read, write, or spell despite adequate intelligence, conventional instruction, and sociocultural opportunity.
