About Plano ISD

homes for sale plano isd school districtThe Plano Independent School District spans approximately one hundred square miles, and if you're considering moving within the area, here's what else you might like to know:

Plano ISD's Professional Staff

You can be assured the District's professional staff is highly qualified to teach your children as forty-one percent hold a master's degree and one percent have a doctorate. The teachers average years of experience is eleven.

Plano School District Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is made up of seven elected members who serve four-year staggered terms without compensation. Elections are held in May of odd-numbered years, and after each one, the board elects a president, vice president, and secretary who hold the position for one year. The trustees have several duties such as adopting a budget and making final decisions when it comes to the District's personnel, policies, expenditures, textbooks, and growth management.

The District's bus drivers have an excellent safety record, and each day, they transport more than 10,000 students to and from school. In order to be eligible for transportation, the Texas Education Agency mandates that students must live at least two miles from their assigned school.

Food and Nutritional Services

The Food and Nutritional Services department takes part in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast program that's governed by the United States Department of Agriculture. This means for lunch, students must select a lunch that contains the five food groups: meat/meat alternate, grains, vegetables, fruits, and milk, and three of the food group choices for breakfast in order to pay the meal price as opposed to a la carte prices. Menus vary, and may include pancakes with sausage, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, breakfast tacos, personal pepperoni pizza, orange chicken over rice, and fiesta nachos.

Health Services

Each campus has a registered nurse who is responsible for serving as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and healthcare providers in order to advocate for student health and a healthy school environment. The nurses also determine if each child has the necessary immunizations needed to enroll in school, track communicable diseases, perform mandated health screenings, and provide hands-on care to students who become ill or injured at school.

Fifth Grade Outdoor School

The Fifth Grade Outdoor School is a fun three day two night program that's offered to all of the District's fifth grade students. It takes place at the Collin County Adventure Camp, and the children participate in outdoor classes that include hands-on science and social studies activities taught by the students' teachers and members of the YMCA staff.

Career and Technical Education

High school students can enroll in a career and technical education program that teaches valuable skills that they can use in college and the workforce. Programs include Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, Education and Training, Health Science, Law, Public Safety Corrections, and Security, and Marketing, Sales, and Service.

PASAR After School Program

PASAR is the Plano ISD's after school care program that's available to students in grades K-5. Each campus has such a program, and it allows students to work on homework and participate in fun activities while their parents are at work.
