homes for sale lake highlands dallas txLake Highlands is an area in the City of Dallas located in the northeastern part of the city.  The neighborhood is not an official subdivision with no official boundaries.  However, the "unofficial boundaries" place the area north of Northwest Highway, east of Central Expressway and the city of Garland to the north & east.

Lake Highlands High School

Just as in any other "small town atmosphere," the main revolving force around the community is the high school.  Lake Highlands High School is the only high school serving the area.  Even though it is part of the Richardson Independent School District, the high school still has that small town feel and you will find most of the neighborhood's residents at Wildcat-Ram Stadium when the Wildcats are playing a home football game in the fall on Friday nights.  The Wildcats won the 5A Texas State Championship in football in 1981 and were named the "team of the decade" for the 1990's.

Lake Highlands High School is a 6A classified high school due to the attendance numbers putting it into the highest classification of the State of Texas UIL governing body.  Keeping up with the high school's happenings is both easy and convenient through the Twitter feed & page on Facebook.

One of the clubs at the high school which has received national notoriety is the Wildcat Wranglers Dance Team.  The Wranglers country & western dance team is comprised of 46 members who have preformed at events such as - Dallas Maverick & Dallas Cowboy games; Presidential Inaugurations in Washington DC; Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade; London, England and Paris, France.

The high school athletic programs receive excellent support from the local booster club - The Wildcat Club.  The Wildcat Club supports all boys and girls athletics programs at the high school level, freshman level and the junior high levels.  Youth athletics around Lake Highlands include but are not limited to the Lake Highlands Soccer Association and the local Lake Highlands YMCA.

Local Residents

One interesting project in the area is the Lake Highlands Community Garden.  The community garden is located on City of Dallas land and consists of 89 garden plots.  The plots range in size from 8 x 14, 8 x16, 8 x 24, and 10 x 14.  Fees for the plots run from $56 - $96 per year.  There is also a $90 refundable deposit on your garden plot.  This is a great way for people who want to garden & grow their own food to do so in the local Lake Highlands area.  This is very eco-friendly.

Church and religion play a major role with most community members.  Three local churches with large membership rosters include - Lake Highlands Church, Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church, Lake Highlands United Methodist Church.

One local organization which works closely with both the community and the high school is the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands.  The organization is an affiliate of the National Exchange Club and the original purpose was the create a grass roots organization for the exchange of ideas leading to community and enhancement.  Over the years, the objective of the Exchange club has evolved to focus attention and efforts on community service, support for local schools, first responders and neighborhood non-profit service projects.  The club sponsors events during the year such as a Halloween Carnival, Oktoberfest, Salute the Troops, Casino Night & Auction and a 4th of July Parade.
