Highland Village became incorporated in 1963 after area lakeside residents decided to live in their "second houses" year round. 


Situated on the border of Lake Lewisville, Highland Village is a short drive from the DFW Airport as well as cities such as Double Oak (4.5 miles), Lewisville (6.1 miles), and Flower Mound (7.7 miles).

The Community

D Magazine consistently ranks Highland Village as a top suburb, and buyers are often drawn to this community as it's a great city to call home for those who don't wish to live in one of the urban communities the Metroplex has to offer.

Highland Village's City Council consists of the mayor and six elected members who serve two-year terms. Their responsibilities include adopting the annual budget, setting policies, and enacting legislation.

The Highland Village Police Department has thirty-one full-time sworn officers, three part-time public safety support officers, and one animal control officer. The department has earned several awards and recognitions such as the Community Policing Award-International Association of Chief's of Police-Operation Shield (2014) and Recognized Agency-Texas Police Chief's Association (2009 to present). 


More than ninety-eight percent of the city's residents are high school graduates, and fifty-six percent have a bachelor's degree or higher.

Unity Park - This thirty-eight acre park has something for just about everyone. It contains a fishing pier, lighted tennis courts, batting cages, soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, hiking/biking trails, and a playground structure.

Pilot Knoll Park Campground - Depending on the water level, this park spans sixty-five to eighty-five acres, and it's a great place for anyone who likes outdoor activities. Visitors can camp overnight, horseback ride on the Hickory Creek and Poindexter Trails, and play horseshoes or sand volleyball.

Highland Village Balloon Festival - Hosted at Unity Park in August, the Highland Village Balloon Festival is a popular event. It features hot air balloons, wiener dog races, and live music. 

Holiday Lighting Contest - Residents who wish to take part in this fun competition can decorate their houses in order to compete in several categories such as Most Creative Display, Most Outstanding Lights, and Best Theme. A panel of judges selects the winners who will receive a yard sign that indicates their win as well as mention in the local paper.
