Named a 2016 Texas District of Character by, the Coppell Independent School District is a great place for students to receive a quality education.

If you're looking at homes in Coppell, here's what else you should know about this district:

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees consists of seven men and women who were elected by registered voters to serve three-year, non-compensated terms. They have several responsibilities including approving an annual budget, adopting the district's tax rate, adopting district policies, and hiring and evaluating the superintendent.

Regular board meetings typically take place at the Vonita White Administration Building/Board Room on Mondays at 7:30 p.m.

The Coppell ISD's Transportation Department has two types of bus service: Regular and Pay to Ride.

Regular is for students who live more than two miles from their campus, and it allows them to ride the bus to and from school free of charge. Pay to Ride is for students who live within two miles of their school, and it provides them with transportation for a fee.

Child Nutrition

The staff of the Child Nutrition Department prepare delicious and nutritious meals. At the elementary level, breakfast items may include maple sausage biscuits, pancakes, and cinnamon mini bagels, while lunch offerings may include chili cheese nachos, baked ravioli, and fiesta beans with rice. Middle and high school students can enjoy lunch options such as chicken tenders, Cici's Pizza, and beef tacos.

Health Services

The district's Health Services team consists of registered nurses and clinic aides who are either licensed vocational nurses or unlicensed assistive personnel.

The registered nurses have many responsibilities such as identifying health problems that have the potential to affect educational achievement, developing a student's plan of care with the student, his or her parents, and healthcare provider, and performing periodic health screenings.

Clinic aides may provide medication administration and minor first aid under the registered nurse's supervision. They are also permitted to perform general hearing, vision, spinal, and diabetes screenings in accordance with the Texas Department of State Health Services program.

Career Education

The district offers Coppell Career Academies such as:

Emerging Media and Communications - This academy allows students to explore a career pathway in communications. The program includes film, radio, television, magazine & newspaper writing, and photography. To give students real world experience, the district partners with the Dallas Film Society,D Magazine, and The Dallas Morning News, just to name a few.

Public Services Academy - The Public Services Academy allows students to explore a career in education or medicine. The education curriculum gives them background knowledge of child and adolescent development principles as well as principles and methods of effective teaching. Students work under the supervision of their high school teacher and an elementary or middle school teacher, and they will graduate with an education fundamentals certificate. Students enrolled in the medical program will gain professional skills as well as those specific to several areas of medicine. They will graduate with certifications such as certified nursing assistant, licensed vocational nurse, certified pharmacy technician, and emergency medical technician.

STEM Academy - The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Academy gives students the opportunity to work with some of the newest software as well as participate in hands-on activities such as rockets and robotics.

Fine Arts

According to the Coppell ISD's website, the purpose of its Fine Arts department is to support the district's mission of educating the whole learner through visual and performing arts. Benefits of the program include:

  • Understanding how to "speak" without using words
  • Students who participate in fine arts tend to score higher on standardized tests
  • High school students are often approached by colleges and universities because participating in fine arts makes them more diverse learners

Middle school students can participate in football, basketball, tennis, track, and cross country, while high schoolers can also take part in golf, volleyball, baseball/softball, soccer, and wrestling.
