In 2011, Allen ISD was rated as "recognized" by the Texas Education Agency sharing the honor with approximately only 35% of other school districts around the State of Texas.  The prior year of 2010 saw Allen Independent School District receiving the highest rating by the T.E.A. of Exemplary.  In August of 2015, Allen ISD exceeded region & state in the Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test results with over 91% of students scoring satisfactorily compared to 64% for the state average.  The district has one high school, one Freshmen center, three middle schools and 17 elementary schools with Norton Elementary School receiving a National Blue Ribbon School award in 2007.  Allen High School is the second largest high school in the State of Texas.

In 2012, Allen ISD opened $69 million dollar Eagle Stadium for football and various other school district events like graduations, concerts and more.  In 2014, it was discovered that Eagle Stadium had major construction flaws in the original engineering with large stress cracks starting to show on the surface of the stadium's concrete.  The stadium was immediately closed to the public for safety reasons and to allow for needed repairs.  Allen ISD received 2.5 million to cover the lost revenue during the stadium's closure.  In May of 2015, and following the proper repairs to the structure, Eagle Stadium was reopened to host Allen ISD's graduation events.

Allen High School also boasts a strong reputation for their Fine Arts Department with Jeff Turner replacing Anthony Gibson as the director of the Fine Arts program in Allen ISD.  The Allen ISD Orchestra Department also scored well in 2015 and was named Honor Orchestra Finalists for the Allen High School Symphony Orchestra, the Ereckson Middle School Symphony Orchestra and the Ereckson Middle School Chamber Orchestra.

homes for sale in allen isd school districtHere is some additional information on the Allen ISD that you might like to know when looking at homes for sale in Allen ISD:

History of Allen ISD

In 1883, the city established a common school district on 3.8 acres. Years later in 1910, residents voted to change to an independent school district that consisted of ten grades. At the time, the district had five teachers who educated two hundred students on an average salary of $45 a month.

The first graduating class of eight students received their diploma in 1914, and while much has changed within the district since then, one thing has remained the same: its dedication to providing students with a quality education.

Board of Trustees

The Allen ISD Board of Trustees along with the superintendent make up what the district calls the "Team of Eight." This team is responsible for attending monthly board meetings (along with other duties) in which parents and other Allen residents can usually attend on the fourth Monday of the month.

Allen School District Teacher Qualifications

All teachers within the district are staff qualified and forty-nine percent have eleven or more years of experience. The student teacher ratio varies by grade, and for mixed grades it's 21:5.

Allen ISD Transportation

To be eligible for transportation, students must live at least two miles from their assigned school. For safety and security reasons, all bus riders must have their student identification showing.

In district transportation news, two bus drivers recently took first and second place in the Texas Association of Pupil Transportation Safety Competition. The first place winner, Angie Ortiz, moved on to the International School Bus Safety Competition where she finished third, marking the first time an Allen ISD driver placed in this competition.

Also, Anna Hamrick, the district's operations manager has been certified as a Director of Public Transportation by the National Association of Pupil Transportation (NAPT). There are only 156 people in the United States and Canada who have earned this recognition since the NAPT Professional Certification Program began in 1989.

Breakfast and Lunch

In addition to lunch, the Allen ISD also serves breakfast. Menus change on a monthly basis, and meal options may include French toast sticks, mini maple pancakes, pepperoni pizza, and nachos with chili and cheese.

Learner Services

Learner Services offers programs such as:

Dyslexia Program - The goals of this program are to identify students who show characteristics of dyslexia and provide them with more specialized instruction that includes language structure, phonics, and linguistics.

English as a Second Language - This program's goals are to give students assessment and counseling along with quality instruction so that they can become proficient in English. Each student's first language, prior knowledge, and culture are considered to ensure success.

Gifted and Talented Program - If your children are new to the district and they took part in a gifted and talented program at their previous school, you'll need to contact the Allen ISD gifted and talented program for screening options.

Students who are not referred through new student status will be recommended for the program based on district-wide screening that's conducted yearly.

Allen ISD Theater

Along with sports, orchestra, and band, students at Allen High School can also participate in theater, either on stage or behind the scenes. The current director is Carrie Howell, and under her guidance, students perform incredible shows for family, friends, and community members.

Kids Club

If you work and are concerned about where your child will go after school, the Kids Club can help. It's open to all children in the district who are in grades k through sixth, and attendance is required at least three days a week. Children can choose from a range of social and recreational activities until the club closes at 6:30 p.m.
